Principal Engineer - Floodplain Management
- $62.59 per hour
- Contract through to 30th April 2026 (Extensions to September 2026 may apply)
- North Brisbane Location
- Option of a 9 day fortnight or 10 day fortnight

The successful candidate will be responsible for specialist planning expertise and lead the delivery of highly complex strategic planning and placemaking projects and services to meet the needs of the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist technical engineering advice to key stakeholders in relation to the floodplain management including the provision of expert computer modelling and the development and maintenance of Council’s flood data products, systems and tools to drive integrated and sustainable outcomes.
- Investigate complex floodplain management problems and prepare and present technical reports and recommendations to ensure project outcomes are met.
- Coordinate and/or undertake flood studies for waterways and urban environments to support infrastructure projects and long term strategic planning and growth (including management of specialist consultants).
- Contribute to the planning and delivery of floodplain infrastructure projects, including completing the preliminary design, preparation of costings and the acquisition of necessary approvals to ensure project outcomes are achieved.
- Maintenance of council’s Regional Flood Database (RFD) and Flood Check Property Report (RCPR) and other flood related databases.
- Undertake the analysis of flood data, compilation of flood related risk matrices and preparation of associated reports to inform the relevant flood hazard overlays and zones within the Planning Scheme.
- Assist in the development and operation of the council's Flood Warning System to provide timely analysis and advice in extreme rainfall and flooding events.
- Support the development of team capability to drive a high performance, continuous improvement and customer focussed culture.
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure Floodplain infrastructure and service delivery outcomes are achieved.
Skills & Experience
- Comprehensive knowledge and experience in floodplain management.
- Comprehensive experience in floodplain management infrastructure planning and design.
- Comprehensive experience in completing complex technical investigations relating to floodplain management matters.
- Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking, reasoning, evaluation and decision making skills.
- Demonstrated experience in the preparation and presentation of complex technical reports and recommendations.
- Strong communication skills to meet the needs of a range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience in the supervision and training of junior engineers.
Qualifications
- Degree in Civil or Environmental engineering or equivalent.
- Current "C" Class Drivers Licence
- Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) (Highly Desirable)
